After putting my DJ career into retirement for a couple of years while I settled down with wife and child, I felt I was missing something in my life. I still listened to house music quite a bit after putting the turntables in the closet... but still there was something missing.

So, being inspired by mixxx 1.6.0 being released and getting back in touch with a dear old friend, as well as being poked and prodded by Nathan, Cedric, and others about getting back into mixing records, I made some room in my small bedroom and got the Technics out again, along with my Stanton mixer. Here are a couple of pics of the untidiness that is my bedroom now:

Mixer could use a dust rag... What a nice way to use a dresser and small bookshelf.

more dusty stuff

Oh boy, was I ever happy to do a 30 minute mixset while the wife watched MSNBC... I forgot how much I really missed feeling vinyl under my hands, hearing big name djs under small-name monikers (Derrick Carter -> DJ Bang), white labeled tracks, hard disco looped madness playing through one ear on headphones while the other track plays on the stereo, syncing those babies up (or trying to, as the case may have been last night with no practice in two years)...  the list of pleasures could go on and on. It was enough to keep me from going to bed until the wee hours, as I was so excited.

So, will you hear mixtapes here on my web site? Most certainly! Am I still a vinyl purist as I used to be and claimed I would be forever more? No. As I stated earlier, mixxx was a driving force in getting me back into 'the scene' and I plan to use mp3s to their fullest extent. I also look forward to putting my vinyl collection on the computer as wav files, so that they will be preserved forever.

Who knows, maybe Daniel will take up the trade and can spin what will then be old school tracks from 2008. So, I'll keep on practicing, spinning, grinning, and maybe put a mixset up here soon. I'll warn you in advance, as you may have figured, my records are oldskool 2004 tracks. :)

till next time.
